Derby Opportunity Area - VCS Subgroup

09 March 2017

Derby has been selected by the Department for Education to be an Opportunity Area (OA) and as such is tasked with improving the educational attainment and outcomes for children and young people in the city.

A small partnership board comprising of key stakeholders is being established. This group will work together to consider the issues, determine the criteria, develop the plan and oversee the delivery of services. The individuals on the group will be the voice of their sector and services. Community Action and CYPN are working together on this representing the voluntary and community sector. They want to establish a VCS subgroup to support this role and are looking for interested volunteers.  There are no plans to have lots of meetings but to communicate "virtually" maybe by What's app or email?

If you would like to be involved; have information, expertise, experience or ideas that contribute towards the VCS voice on the board please email your contact details to

If you would like to know more about OA please follow the link: social mobility package

The first meeting of the partnership board is Friday 10 March. We will need a "VCS Virtual group" to get to work immediately after this to provide a response for a workshop session in a couple of weeks. More information to follow.

We think there is a real chance through OA to make a positive difference in Derby.

Thank you for your help.
