FareShare Food Donations

23 August 2016

The FareShare FoodCloud project aims to redistribute fit to eat food from store level directly to charities, not-for-profits and community groups. The scheme is in its sixth phase and launching in Tesco Extras and Superstores in the area - local stores taking part are:

Tesco, Kipling Drive, Derby DE3 9NH

Tesco, Resolution Road, Ashby-de-la-Zouch LE65 1TE

How it works?

Community organisations and not-for-profits choose one or more evenings per week to collect surplus food from the local Tesco Extra or Superstore.

On those evenings at 7:30pm, organisations will be notified via text that the donation is available for collection.

The fresh surplus food will be packaged and available for collection from the store from 8:30pm.

The foods in the donation package will be mainly fresh foods, bread, bakery, fruit and vegetables and occasionally cereals and tins. It is hard to say exactly what type and amount of food will come through the donation as the project is new to these stores but when you do go to collect the donation you are free to only take whatever food that you will use and benefit from. The main things to consider is the late collection time of 8:30pm (fixed), that it is a regular weekly collection and that you would need to bring the food back the your organisation to store it safely.

To be a part of the project and start receiving food donations for your organisation email Phoebe Zhu - phoebe.zhu@fareshare.org.uk - or call 07939 039604 for more information and to arrange a meeting or at your location to see your kitchen or storage areas.
