Sally's Success in Fundraising Qualification

14 April 2015

Sally Williams

Sally Williams, Locality Manager at RVS, recently achieved a Level 3 Fundraising Qualification - the first learner to study the qualification with support from Community Action, the umbrella group for voluntary and community organisations in Derby city.

Royal Voluntary Service supports older people to remain independent and happy within their own communities for as long as they choose to, and because the qualification allowed Sally to choose modules relevant to her role she will be able to use the skills she has learnt more effectively in her day-to-day responsibilities.

Sally decided to study for the Level 3 Fundraising Qualification as it offered a lot of flexibility and balanced theoretical modules with practical tasks. Sally said: "The functional skills modules were a necessary part of the qualification but made me revisit skills in English and Maths I thought I had lost or forgotten about.  The ICT module was particularly useful and the skills I gained have helped me on a daily basis".

In addition to Sally achieving the qualification RVS has benefitted by having someone who now has a structured approach to fundraising and community fundraising and has the skills to raise the profile of the organisation and recruit more volunteers.

Sally said: "The qualification and the commitment needed were explained at the outset and I was offered advice, guidance and support throughout which helped greatly when there were competing priorities.  Liz Gumbley, the assessor, helped me to understand how to gather evidence effectively and encouraged me to integrate my studies into my day-to-day role which generated two-way benefits.  I felt that I received the right amount of support to enable me to complete the qualification on time and was particularly grateful for Liz's guidance when deadlines were looming".
